Thank you for joining us at the Housing Affordability Symposium in February 2012, where we continued the development of action-oriented strategies to lower housing costs and remove barriers to entry for all British Columbians.
Housing Affordability Symposium is a collaboration between the Canadian Home Builders Association of British Columbia and BC Housing to address market housing affordability in British Columbia. The high price of housing is no longer limited to just Greater Vancouver, but has extended to most of the populated areas across the province. In November 2010 the first symposium brought together both industry and all levels of government in a ground-breaking effort to openly discuss the issues and solutions to housing affordability in BC. This work was continued during the 2012 symposium in February and highlighted many actionable solutions from communities across the province.
We were thrilled to have 150 participants participating at HAS 2012 and look forward to widening the scope of the symposium to include wider representation from all levels of government and the industry. The presentations were wide-ranging and informative and featured many tremendous opportunities for developing affordable market housing in BC. (Download Presentations here)
The first Symposium in 2010 roundtable discussions resulted in this follow-up report: The Action Plan to Address Housing Affordability in BC. A new and revised Action Plan will be issued in the coming months to provide a foundation for further action and collaboration to make housing within the means of all British Columbians. Please check in here in May 2012 for updates and future strategic action plan for success in housing affordability.
Have your voice heard. Learn the issues. Build the solutions. Take action and be involved.
These Market Housing Affordability Progress Reports are designed as self-measuring tools to assist you in assessing areas of achievement and identifying opportunities for growth. Each of the eleven Goal Statements from the Action Plan to Address Market Housing Affordability is listed with their associated recommendations. Recommendations have been identified as either short term (ST, < 1year), mid-term (MT, 1-5years) or long term (LT, > 5years). To complete the Progress Report, rate your group’s success in moving towards or achieving the Goal Statement. The results of the Progress Reports can be faxed or mailed in to the Symposium organizers to be shared at the next symposium. All results will only be shared as a single aggregate score for all groups and never will be shared individually. The goal of the Progress Reports is to help measure our mutual success in addressing market housing affordability.
